Hydrangea in Rainy Season

Hydrangea loves water, which blooms in the rainy season in Japan. It’s the symbolic flower of the season that clears up a gloomy mood in a prolonged rain. ‘Nara Prefecture Complex of Man’yo Culture’ in Asuka is famous for it.

We call the rainy season “Tsuyu” which literally means “ plum rain” ,because it starts when plums are ripening. During the rainy season in Japan, it is extremely humid and unpleasant to travel. Most people do not prefer traveling during this sticky season; however, temples, gardens and old houses are rather attractive in the rain and the mist and these conditions make for an atmospheric visit.

Under the sound of rain drizzling, hydrangeas attract many people. After the rain the color of flowers turns more vivid, this breathtaking beauty is worth seeing! Also lucky one might be able to catch the rainbow!

In Asuka, “Amacha” tea is made from hydrangea leaves. Amacha tea is applied to the ritual for the celebration of the Bhudda’s Birth. The tea is sweet with anti-allergic and antibacterial effects. Have a refreshing break with this special tea to fulfill your body and soul.
